Smart home at CES 2025: AI and Matter will take center stage
Barely more than a year ago, the idea of an AI-powered smart security camera that could describe what it was seeing truly blew our minds. Just as it has in the general technology space, generative AI has begun to permeate the smart home and home security markets, from smart cams that can augment their video histories with self-generated captions to smart lights capable of creating lighting scenes using natural-language prompts. The trend of AI in the smart home will be everywhere at this year's edition of CES, where many–if not most–smart home and home security announcements will come with a generous sprinkling of LLM-powered features. At the same time, another feature will be ubiquitous as far as smart home is concerned: Matter, the budding smart home standard that aims to unite the big smart ecosystems. That said, don't expect any Matter security camera announcements at CES next month; we'll explain why in a moment.
CES 2019: Alexa vs. Google, foldable TVs and 5G to take center stage in Las Vegas
This year's Consumer Electronics Show is bringing the latest in tech including self-driving suitcases and motorcycles. Every year, the Consumer Electronics Show kicks off the new year with a smorgasbord of new gadgets that may -- or may not -- ever see the light of day, gee-whiz new prototypes that do, indeed, wow us, and lots of talk about the next big thing in tech that's right around the corner. This year, the show floor chatter will be all about 5G broadband and artificial intelligence, and how they will change our lives as know it. The faster 5G internet signals will provide the backbone needed for autonomous self-driving cars and smart cities, for improved traffic flow and other services. AI will take the promise of the still burgeoning Smart Home, and using our voices to command Alexa and Google to turn on and off the lights and tell us the weather.
Artificial intelligence to take center stage at IFA 2018
Taking place in German capital Berlin from Friday for a six-day run, IFA 2018 will serve as a place for world-leading tech giants -- around 1,800 exhibitors -- to boast their latest technology highlights ranging from intelligent and interconnected home appliances, artificial intelligence and TVs featuring even better picture quality. Korea's two largest electronics manufacturers Samsung and LG are gearing up for presentations of their visions for smart living with AI and connected devices. On the opening day of the event, LG Electronics CEO & Vice Chairman Jo Seong-jin will deliver a keynote speech for the first time, titled "Think Wise, Be Free: Living Freer with AI," which will offer his insight into how the Korean company's AI strategy can change customers' lives. Other keynote speakers include Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, who will talk about AI on mobile devices, and Daniel Rausch, vice president of smart home division at Amazon, about how voice is expanding and improving everyday experiences. At its exhibition venue, LG will be showcasing the newest development of AI-powered robots, including its first wearable robot CLOi SuitBot, which the company aggressively has sought for its next growth engine.
Intelligent Agents, Blended AI Factor Into A 'Year Of Reckoning'
This article is part of CMO.com's December series about 2018 trends, predictions, and new opportunities. Despite a vibrant economy, individual companies will confront unceasing changes in technology and inflated consumer expectations. That's why Forrester Research is calling 2018 a "year of reckoning." It sees both as an existential threat that makes the fate of individual companies uncertain. This environment has prompted a radical shift in what is traditionally meant by marketing; some even view the traditional role of chief marketing officer as outmoded.
Voice Payments Ready to Take Center Stage
The introduction of new voice-driven digital assistants has captured the imagination of consumers and businesses alike. As more developers build capabilities for these devices, consumers will increase usage, providing the springboard for integration with digital banking solutions such as voice-driven payments. It is becoming clear that the next battle in the tech world will be around voice-driven digital assistants, such as the Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa, Microsoft Cortana, Google Assistant/Now and Samsung Bixby/Viv. While the attention has moved from smartphone assistants to home hubs, the real excitement will begin as the underlying AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning begins to deliver detailed, contextual, and highly personalized responses that will make a consumer's life easier. Digital assistants will be at the heart of a user's daily activities, whether in an increasingly smart home (using home hub devices like the Amazon Echo and Dot, Google Home, Apple HomePod), a connected car, at work or walking down the street.
AI, Digital Assistants To Take Center Stage At CES
New types of artificial intelligence (AI) will be one of the major themes to watch for at the 2017 CES. AI has been a growing story at the show for the past few years, but at CES 2017 it will be more dramatic and pervasive than ever before. In fact, AI could very well be "The Story of the Show." Expect AI themes focused on experiences powered by AI, though not necessarily visible to the consumer. This is about the convergence of AI capabilities, such as machine learning, natural language processing, and analytics, that spawn more fidelity and more personalized responses.
